Role and responsibilities

Being a Senior Cryptography Security Expert, you guide the organization’s cryptographic direction and ensure that cryptographic capabilities remain secure, compliant, and future-ready. You oversee enterprise level cryptographic initiatives, drive strategic development, and provide expert leadership on emerging technologies and regulatory requirements. In this role, you function as an accountable senior member of the second line organization, enabling strong governance and advising stakeholders across the business.

In this position, you:

Lead Enterprise Cryptography Strategy & Governance

  • Define and drive the enterprise‑wide cryptographic strategy and roadmap, including post‑quantum readiness.
  • Translate regulatory requirements (NIST, GDPR, CRA, NIS2) into actionable enterprise‑level cryptographic standards and policies.
  • Maintain and evolve cryptographic policies, standards, and baselines, leveraging existing or new (automation) tooling.

Provide Second Line Oversight & Assurance

  • Oversee and challenge first line implementation across IT, OT, product, and manufacturing teams in diverse environments to ensure effective cryptographic controls.
  • Conduct independent second line assessments on cryptographic controls, key management processes, and algorithm lifecycle governance.
  • Report on cryptographic control effectiveness, risk posture, and post‑quantum readiness to senior leadership.
  • Continuously improve cryptography‑related controls within the enterprise control framework.

Advise on Emerging Technologies & Regulatory Alignment

  • Function as subject matter expert on cryptography, regulations, and industry best practices.
  • Evaluate emerging cryptographic technologies and contribute to policy updates and governance improvements.

Stakeholder Engagement & Knowledge Sharing

  • Collaborate with IT, product, legal, compliance, and other partners to embed cryptographic best practices across the organization.
  • Deliver training and awareness sessions to promote cryptographic compliance & literacy across the organization.
  • Build strong relationships and communicate effectively across diverse stakeholders, aligning perspectives and priorities.

This role is positioned in the second line IT security team within the Risk Business Assurance & Security (RBA&S) department of ASML.

Education and experience

  • Master’s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years (medior) or 10 years (senior) professional experience with a focus on security and cryptography.

  • Profound understanding of cryptographic algorithms, key management, encryption techniques, and hash functions.

  • Demonstrated ability to apply security and risk frameworks in complex enterprise environments, such as NIST Cyber Security framework, ISF Standard of Good Practice for Information Security, IEC 62443, NIST SP 800 30 framework and ISO 27001/2 framework.

  • Deep knowledge of current and future developments in security technologies.

  • CISSP, CISM or similar certification.

  • Extensive experience in the design, analysis and implementation of cryptographic algorithms and protocols.

  • Expertise in cryptographic primitives such as symmetric, asymmetric, hashing, digital signatures and key exchange mechanisms.

  • Hands-on experience with cryptographic systems for key management (KMS), certification authorities (PKI) and hardware security modules (HSM).

  • Experience in the wider IT security landscape, including multiple (enterprise) environments is a must as well as having hands-on experience in Security Operations.
